Sarah Nelson is an Anishinaabekwe who lives in Anemki Wekwedong (Thunder Bay). She is from the Eagle clan and a member of Couchiching First Nation, with family ties to Lac Seul First Nation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Learning and has a background in community-based research for grassroots organizations including the 4Rs Youth Movement. Presently, she is the Northwest Lead for CatalystsX. As part of this work she coordinates the project Northern Lights Collaborative, a youth network. She volunteers on the Board of Directors for Shkoday which focuses on culturally-based programs for Indigenous children and youth, as well as family supports. She is an Advisor for the Indigenous Futures Fund with the Laidlaw Foundation which offers funding for Indigenous youth-led projects to strengthen community connections to land, language and culture.
